A busy week. Google and OpenAI both shipped new flagship models, OpenAI moved into office software, and a long list of companies tried to put guardrails around AI agents.

Google releases Gemini 4 Argon
Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, which it calls its most powerful model yet. It is aimed at long, complex reasoning tasks and defensive cybersecurity, such as finding and patching software vulnerabilities. For now, access is limited to selected security partners.

OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Sol
At its DevDay event, OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says comes close to GPT-6 Astra on coding and professional work at one fifth of the token price. It rolled out first to paid ChatGPT plans and Codex.

OpenAI moves into office software
OpenAI also showed Space, a shared workspace for teams and AI agents, Pages, a word processor built for people and agents working together, and collaborative slides made by chatting with ChatGPT. Reporters framed it as a direct challenge to Microsoft Office.

Nvidia leads a push to contain rogue AI agents
Nvidia launched the Open Agent Safety Platform with more than 100 companies, including Anthropic, Hugging Face, Arm and Intel. It pairs OpenShell, an open-source sandbox meant to keep agents from escaping, with a hardware-based monitor. OpenAI is not listed but says it supports the effort.

ElevenLabs doubles its valuation to $22 billion
The AI voice company completed a $300 million tender offer, letting employees sell shares, at a $22 billion valuation. That is double the $11 billion valuation it reported in February 2026.

Reddit shuts RSS feeds and its public API, citing AI scraping
Reddit said RSS feeds will end on November 13, 2026 and public API access will end in March 2027, blaming large-scale scraping by bots. After that, AI tools will need a commercial deal to use Reddit data that way.

DoorDash lets you text an AI agent to order food
DoorDash introduced an AI agent inside Apple Messages that understands requests like order my usual, suggests local dishes and handles group orders. US users can join a waitlist.

Airbnb adds AI search
Airbnb's fall update adds an optional AI search where you describe your trip by text or voice and the app builds matching filters, plus AI summaries for comparing wish-listed stays. It is rolling out in limited locations.

Claude agents flag a new CRISPR-like enzyme system
Anthropic reported that hundreds of Claude agents, searching a large DNA database, spotted a previously undescribed system pairing a reverse transcriptase with a CRISPR-like repeat array. Its function is still unknown, lab work is ongoing, and human scientists did all experimental validation.
